Digital and Social Media Awareness Campaign

A comprehensive National Policy on Digital Media Literacy is a multiphase project spread over number of areas and fields. Whereas the challenges of misunderstanding and misuse of the Digital & Social Media are immediate. Therefore, along with efforts to develop a base for National Policy Strategy, NPT has included in its Program an Awareness Campaign to enhance Digital Media Literacy.

Instead of developing the campaign on its own or through private firms, the NPT has opted for collaborating with the Media Schools of partnering universities. Under the MoUs signed with the University of Punjab and RIPHAH International University, the Media Schools will be developing material for campaign on regular basis. NPT will use and spread the developed material through its own print & digital media platforms. The Trust will approach, PEMRA and other organizations to include this material in the public service message category and broadcast / publish these on National Print and Electronic Media.

However, under this program NPT will not be using the traditional campaign material and media only. In view of the nature and spread of Digital Social Media and new trends and patterns in its usage especially by the youth and children, cotemporary and emerging methods, techniques, formats and media will be used in the campaign.

In this regard NPT is exploring international linkages and resources to benefit from the skills and learnings of international expert individuals and organizations.

Besides, a media-based campaign, NPT has planned physical interactive activities with the students of the Schools being run and managed in collaboration of the University of Punjab in Lahore and a School for Out of School Children in Islamabad.
